Drink driving statistics
In 2009, a total of 42 drivers and motorcyclists were killed with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.05 g/100ml and over, which is 8 less than the previous calendar year.

25% of all drivers and motorcyclists killed on Victoria's roads over the last year were 0.05 g/100ml or over. The majority of drivers are heavily intoxicated, registering more than three times over the legal limit.

Of the 42 drivers and motorcyclists killed in 2009 with a BAC at 0.05 g/100ml or over:
- 79% were males;
- 31% were between 21 and 29 years of age, 21% were aged between 30 and 39 years, 31% were aged over 40, and the remaining 17% were 20 years of age or younger;
- 67% were involved in single vehicle crashes;
- 55% of fatalities occurred on country roads; and
- 64% died in crashes that occurred between the hours of 6pm and 6am.
In 2009, Victoria Police breath tested 1.24 million drivers and riders from Booze Bus operations. More than 4000 drivers and riders were caught with an illegal blood alcohol concentration (BAC) over this period.
